Pink Shoe at the Royal Wedding!

Pink Shoe Club members and friends enjoyed an absolutely unbeatable view of the Royal Wedding as the lucky ballot winners were entertained in Whitehall on the big day.

Arriving at 8am to ensure we weren’t delayed by crowds, already people were 4 and 5 deep on the pavement.  Just outside our window soldiers from the Blues & Royals and Household Cavalry lined the route. We thought they were saluting us, until we realised the regimental ‘colours’ were being displayed opposite!

We watched guests arrive as we enjoyed muffins and bucks fizz, and as we’ve all seen in the media, the panoply of outfits and hats was a highlight of the day.

Una Mcbride brought along paper masks of key royal participants which caused hilarity amongst the crowd outside, who proceeded to take masses of pictures of the group. Nancy Hannah made a perfect Kate (right)
...and Una is clearly to the manner born as she gave the royal wave better than the Queen herself - and to the delight of her subjects!

The crowd was lively, good humoured and vocal – raising one of the loudest cheers for the last-minute street sweepers ensuring everything was tidy for the bride.

Moving onto smoked salmon and other delicacies, we cracked open the champagne in good time for the arrival of the wedding party.

We were thrilled to see the procession pass within a couple of metres, including a fabulous view of the bride – which was lucky as within minutes one of our guests was phoned by a radio station presenter who asked her to describe Kate's stunningly elegant wedding dress.

With a cinema-sized screen in our room, we could almost have been in the Abbey for the service. And we were able to both watch the ceremony and listen to proceedings live from the speakers broadcasting outside.

Afterwards we were again at the windows, waving our flags and enthralled to watch the new Duke & Duchess go past - we couldn't have had a better view of the couple!

Then came the Queen & Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, the Middletons and the entire royal family plus the whole wonderful pageant of coaches and horses.

And of course to accompany this magnificent spectacle, we unwrapped our individual silver parcels of traditional wedding cake, and toasted the bride & groom with sparkling English rosé.

Our only regret was that we couldn’t party with more Pink Shoe people – so for those members who weren’t drawn out this time, we’ve promised priority booking for the State Opening of Parliament.

This was an historic day for everyone and we felt especially fortunate to be there!
