Alina gave us a brief history of art through the centuries from Renaissance to Neo-classicism to Romanticism then to modern art.
We gained a unique insight into some of the worlds’ leading contemporary artists and it was interesting to see how creative tastes have changed over time.
Also intriguing
was to hear about art auctions, how things work behind the scenes and some exciting
auctions with art works achieving record-breaking sums. Perhaps not
surprisingly, none of the top-ten selling artists in terms of sale at auction is
a woman; but of course there are notable contemporary female artists.
Alina
told us of a magical moment when selling a world-famous painting in New York,
and having the privilege to spend time alone in the gallery with the
magnificent art work. Absolutely unforgettable.
